... about family.
I work closely with a Canadian pastor who is recovering from an extensive heart surgery following a trip to Nigeria where he picked up a nasty tropical virus that affected his heart. And he is now at his son's home recuperating and resting. The beauty of this story is how he "found his son".
You see, his son is Ghanaian.
Twenty-some years ago, he worked in Ghana as a pastor and had no family. One of his parishioner's young son always came over to his house. A few years later, the church relocated him to another part of Ghana. On the day he was to leave the parish, the little boy - 8 years old at the time, jumped into the car and said "Im going with you and I'm going whereever you go".
And that was it. He adopted him and when he moved back to Canada, he brought his son over with him. Put him through high school, through university and he's now living in Canada - happily married with two young children and working in the IT industry. The grandkids see their granddad every day after work.
Imagine if that little boy hadn't insisted on going with my colleague. Who'd have taken care of him now ey? Families come in all shapes and sizes and colours...
...and that's my cheesy entry for today. =P
