Out of the ordinary...

....definitely describes my experience today.

I got myself a fish pedicure!

I know right... those two words do NOT go together but strangely enough - in this case - they do! Fish pedicures are the new trend in the spa world and popping up all over Europe. They opened up a natural fish spa in town and as I'm known to try out bizarre stuff, I signed up for one (dragging along a friend with me!)!

And boy was it freaaaaaaaaaaaaaky!!! Basically, you are putting your feet at the mercy of about 50-70 fish which feed on your dead skin cells. Don't worry, they're no piranhas and in fact they're quite the opposite. They are tiny toothless fish called Garra Rufa which swarm around your feet and get their vitamin and mineral fix from your dead skin while revealing smoother and healthier skin! Don't they call that a symbiotic relationship or something?

My loverly Cinderfela feet in symbiosis with them fish

Anyhoo, the sensation of those suckers munching away at my feet was strange - at first it was ticklish, then it became this constant electric-like buzz and towards the end, it was just nice and relaxing! After half an hour, we got the usual massage and pedicure treatment. Pure heaven! :)

It's probably the strangest spa treatment I've tried but it's not too bad after you get over the idea of live things nibbling away at you!!!! I don't think it'll be a regular spa treatment for me, but I'm definitely open to getting one every few months. Y'all should check it out for yourselves! :)

My dad has a large pond at home filled with fish and when we were young we would put our feet/hands in their so they could nibble on them - who knew we were european Spa trend setters waaaay back then?

Ok, i gotta say though that at first glance the photo looked like there were leeches everywhere and i was like EWWWW NASTY. I admire your adventurous spirit.

OMG I saw this in that Jessica Simpson show about beauty and thought it was just the coolest thing! Lucky you! Don't think we have anything like this in good ol' NZ... yet... Guess I'll have to stick to my weekly DIY pedi for now....

I saw this (but didn't try it) in Cambodia and a couple of other South East Asian countries. I was like why pay for it when avaava will nibble at your feet for free! LOL! Will be more adventurous (read less cheap) next time.
