I just feel sorry for the two prostitutes walking outside my hotel, each up and down the street waiting for customers to pick them up all night long. Those boots must be hot, sticky and sweaty (ooooooooooooh definitely no pun intended there!) and I'm sure their knees and feet are killing them!
This brings me to deeper questions - why are they there in the first place? Is it by choice? Or are they forced into this kind of work? Were they in a cycle of abuse and violence which led them to the streets? Or are they middle class women who chose prostitution to fund luxurious lifestyles? How do they separate this line of work with their personal lives?
I can't help asking these questions and many more, wondering about this issue. I read some article a couple of months back about Iceland enforcing a law which prosecutes people who BUY sex i.e. the clients and not the prostitutes (who are usually forced into it!). I'm not sure whether that's helped in decreasing prostitution. I'd think it would as it is targeting the reason why prostitutes still exist today - because there is a demand! It would be interesting to know this.
Eh I got lots more to say but my eyes are about to fall off as it's 1.18am now and I've had a CRAZY but interesting last few days
G'night!
